Back-lit symbol indicators are made from transparent plastic and completely coated with an opaque varnish. Then this coating is partly removed by the laser - thus creating the desired symbol. When the finished symbol indicator is back-lit, light can only come through the laser-etched area.
Keys and symbol indicators with markings on the top surface, such as PC keyboards or device keypads, are moulded from pigmented plastic that changes its colour during laser processing.
